

Varsity Coaching Staff
Brad Beeskow - Head Coach / Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks
Coach Beeskow begins his fourth year as Head Football Coach at Forest Lake, with a 20-10 record and three section championship runner up finishes in the previous three years. In addition to his head coaching duties, he will coordinate the offense and coach the quarterbacks. Coach Beeskow played high school football at Andover High School, where he was an all-conference player, and collegiate football at St. Cloud State University and the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, where he was a starter and four year letter winner. His coaching experience includes stops at Augsburg University (2015-2018) as an offensive assistant and the Academy of Holy Angels (2019-2021) as the offensive coordinator, where his team won back to back section championships with trips to the state tournament in 2020 & 2021. Coach Beeskow’s goal for the program is to create an energetic and exciting work environment as we teach life skills through the game of football to our players and our families where we enjoy the process of playing high school football and the relationships we create through our football family. The team motto of “WORK” truly embodies what it means to be a football player and community member in Forest Lake where we control how hard we work on a daily basis. Coach Beeskow currently lives in Forest Lake with his wife Haley and daughter’s Benson (4) and Bayler (2). He currently works as a Dean of Students at Forest Lake High School.
Adam Burtness - Defensive Coordinator / Inside Linebackers
Coach Burtness begins his fourth year as defensive coordinator at Forest Lake. Through three years his defenses have ranked top 10 in 6A football, claiming the top defense in the Metro East Conference twice and including leading the state in PPG allowed and rushing YPG allowed in 2023. In addition to his coordinating duties he will coach the inside linebackers for the defense. Coach Burtness played high school football at Andover High School and has been coaching high school football for the previous 15 years. His coaching experience includes stops at Andover (2011-2015, 2020-2021) and Irondale High School (2016-2019) where he has coached linebackers, defensive backs, and running backs. Coach Burtness’ coaching philosophy is to provide passion and confidence in helping young adults grow to become their best on the football field and in the classroom. Coach Burtness currently lives in Columbia Heights with his significant other Bella. He currently works as a personal trainer in downtown Wayzata.
Aaron Pavek - Defensive Line / Special Teams Coordinator
Coach Pavek begins his fourth year as the defensive line coach at Forest Lake. In addition to his duties coaching the defensive line, he also serves as the team's special teams coordinator. Coach Pavek has produced multiple all-district lineman and an all-state lineman. His defensive line’s have helped lead a top defense in the state and produced top 5 in tackles for loss and sacks. Coach Pavek played high school football at Brainerd High School where he was an all conference player and played in the Minnesota high school all star game and collegiate football at St. Cloud State University. His coaching experience includes work as an assistant coach at St. Cloud State once he finished his playing career. Coach Pavek’s coaching philosophy supports technical aggressive defensive line play as he strives to help players realize their potential at the High School Level. Coach Pavek currently lives in Forest Lake with his wife Kyli, daughter Rowyn (5), son JJ (3) and loyal hunting companion Kona. He currently works at Arvig Media as a Marketing Executive.
Ross Kigner - Wide Receivers / JV Head Coach / Technology Coordinator
Coach Kigner begins his third year as the wide receivers coach at Forest Lake. In addition to his duties as wide receivers coach he serves as the JV head coach and the technology coordinator. Under his tutelage, Coach Kigner’s receiver groups have reached 1000 yards receiving and been near the top of Metro East statistics each year. His prior experience includes 10+ years coaching at Roseville High School. Coach Kigner helped secure two SEC Football Conference Championships, a trip to the 6A Football State Semi-Finals, an SEC Conference Champion in the Shot-Put, and was awarded the 2019 Section 4AA Assistant Track & Field Coach of the Year award. Coach Kigner grew up in White Bear Lake and is a graduate of Mounds Park Academy. He played football for St. Paul Academy before becoming a four-year letter winner as a defensive back and kicker at the Univ. of Minnesota Morris. Coach Kigner’s mission is to strengthen our relationships everyday which will make us better at everything in the community, classroom, and in competition. Coach Kigner currently lives in White Bear Lake with his wife Lauren, daughter Rorie (5), and son Luka (2). He works as a property manager and a substitute teacher at Forest Lake High School.
Jesse Bade - Running Backs / Head Strength and Conditioning
Coach Bade begins his seventh year coaching at Forest Lake and his fourth as the running backs coach. In the past 3 years as running backs coach, he has produced a 1000 yard rusher in each year and helped lead a rushing attack that averages over 250 yards per game, ranking top 5 in the state every year. In addition to his duties as running backs coach he helps coordinate the JV offense and is the head strength and conditioning coach for the high school. Coach Bade played high school football at Genoa Kingston High School in Illinois and collegiate football at William Penn University. His coaching experience also includes work as an assistant coach at William Penn University. Coach Bade’s coaching philosophy is as a coach, the impact that is made on the athletes that we come in contact with is some of the most important parts of these student athletes lives as they grow into the young men and women that they will become after their time with us. His goal is to positively impact the student athletes in as many ways as possible and hopefully mold the young men and women of our community into respectable, responsible, and hard working members of our society as they move forward into their own journeys. There is nothing that pays more than hard work and I am forever grateful to be a part of their journey. Coach Bade currently lives in North Branch with his wife Ashlee and daughter Gracelynn (2). He works as a Special Education teacher at Forest Lake High School.
Rick Sutton - Tight Ends
Coach Sutton begins his 43rd year coaching and his first year as the tight ends coach at Forest Lake. He has previously spent 34 years as a head coach in Minnesota, with stops at Cottonwood, Brooklyn Center, Mankato West, Eagan and Farmington. He has also spent time as an assistant coach at Simley and Academy of Holy Angels. His 1999 and 2002 Mankato West teams were 4A State Champions, and he was inducted into the MFCA’s Hall of Fame in 2017. His coaching philosophy is to use athletics as a tool to help student athletes learn how to positively deal with adversity while recognizing the importance of being a part of something bigger than themselves. Coach Sutton currently lives in Blaine with his wife Carmon; they have two adult daughters - Kelsey (Dennis) and Maggie (Alex) and two granddaughters - Nina (8) and Bodie (7). He is a retired English/Language Arts teacher.
Brandon Westberg - Offensive Line
Coach Westberg will begin his second year as the offensive line coach at Forest Lake. In his first year as the offensive line coach, his offensive line helped produce an offense that averaged 350 yards per game, including 250 yards rushing per game, top 5 in the state. Coach Westberg played high school football at Cambridge-Isanti High School where he was a Mr. Football finalist and all state player. He played college football at North Dakota State University, where he was a 3 year starter for the Bison. He currently lives in St. Francis, MN and attends chiropractic school at Northwestern Health Sciences University.
Brad Sundem - Cornerbacks
Coach Sundem begins his 14th year coaching and his first year as the cornerbacks coach at Forest Lake. He has previously spent 14 years as a coach at Anoka High School, where he was the freshman head coach, sophomore head coach, and also Varsity assistant throughout his time at Anoka. Coach Sundem was also the Head Coach of the Lacrosse team at Anoka for 14 years. His coaching philosophy is “hard work and a great team first attitude will create the leaders on and off the field that our communities need”. Coach Sundem currently lives in Linwood with his wife Manda and his 3 kids Judd, Joey, and Eli. When not coaching or spending time with family Coach Sundem spends his time running his lawn and landscaping business.
Zach Andrade - Safeties
Coach Andrade begins his first season at Forest Lake, where he will coach the safeties. Coach Andrade played high school football at Roseville Area High School where he was an all district player and college football at the University of St. Thomas. His coaching philosophy is to equip players with the skills and mindset needed to excel on the field, while also helping them grow into respectful, responsible young men off the field. He believes in using football as a tool not just for competition, but for building character, discipline, and lifelong values. He currently lives in St. Paul and works as a software engineer.
Eric Ososki - Outside Linebackers
Coach Ososki begins his third season as the outside linebackers coach at Forest Lake. In addition to his duties as outside linebackers coach he also helps coordinate the JV defense. Coach Ososki played high school football at Irondale High School where he was an all district player and has coached at Irondale High School before coming to Forest Lake. His coaching philosophy is to enjoy every moment because it goes fast. He currently works at Highview Middle School as a special education para.
Justin Wolf - Kickers/Punters
Coach Wolf begins his fourth year as the kickers/punters coach at Forest Lake. During the past three seasons his kickers have consistently been near the top of the state in extra point percentage. Coach Wolf played high school football at Spring Lake Park High School and ran track collegiately at Minnesota State University - Mankato. His coaching experience includes stops at Buffalo High School (2014-2017) and Champlin Park High School (2020-2021) where he has also coached soccer and track and field. His coaching philosophy is to connect with players while teaching the fundamentals of accurate and consistent kicking which provides a dependable tool to the important aspect of the game in special teams. Coach Wolf currently lives in Forest Lake with his wife Lisa, daughter Aspen (4) and son Jayden (6 mo). He currently works at State Farm as a wealth management representative.
Duane Dumonceaux - Offensive Assistant / JV Offensive Coordinator
Coach Dumonceaux begins his sixth season coaching at Forest Lake, where he will serve as an offensive assistant and coordinate the JV offense, having previously served as the offensive coordinator for the freshman team for 3 years. Coach Dumonceaux played high school football at St. John’s Prep in Collegeville, MN and played collegiate football at St John’s University where he played wide receiver and special teams. He has been coaching for 15 years in the Forest Lake community, where he also coaches high school basketball and VFW baseball. His coaching philosophy is believing that playing sports not only builds character and confidence, but also gives each person a sense of accomplishment. He believes that giving players an opportunity in sports can prepare them for life as they grow up and become adults. He believes in playing and working as a team and as a team player, not as an individual an strives to provide an environment to encourage student athletes to learn and develop on and off the field to create a positive experience so players can communicate, be responsible and hold themselves and their teammates accountable for their behaviors both on and off the playing field and in everyday life. Coach Dumonceaux currently lives in Columbus with his wife Amy and sons Nolan and Owen. He currently works as an area manager for Performance Food Services out of Rogers, MN.
Casey Irish - Defensive Assistant / JV Defensive Coordinator / Youth President
Coach Irish begins his 12th season coaching at Forest Lake, where he will serve as a defensive assistant and coordinate the JV defense, having previously served as the head coach for the freshman team for 3 years. He also serves as the president of Forest Lake Youth Football. Coach Irish played high school football at Luck High School in Wisconsin and has been coaching football at various levels for 14 years. He began coaching in 2010 in Forest Lake and started at the youth level coaching 4th grade through 8th grade and assumed that role until he was promoted to the high school staff in 2016. Coach Irish’s coaching philosophy is that he coaches to help build up young men and women to achieve their goals through great work ethic, competition, and determination to succeed. He strives to share his passion for sports, to help build lifelong relationships, to teach honesty and integrity, to help teach commitment and to teach athletes to be the best possible person and teammate possible. Coach Irish currently lives in Forest Lake and works as a project manager.
Sophomore Coaching Staff
Matt Wicken - Head Sophomore Coach / Offensive Coordinator
Coach Wicken begins his 18th year coaching and his first year as the head sophomore coach at Forest Lake, where he will also coordinate the offense. His most recent coaching experience includes stops at White Bear Lake and Chisago Lakes. Coach Wicken grew up in St. Anthony, MN and graduated from Concordia University, St. Paul. His coaching philosophy is to use the game of football to teach important life lessons that will help shape student athletes into better individuals both on and off the field. Success, to him, is seeing athletes develop not just as competitors, but as confident, accountable individuals that embrace challenges. Coach Wicken currently lives in Center City with his wife Alyssa, and their 3 kids Sydney (5), Laila (4) and Roman (2). They are expecting a 4th child in 2025. He’s worked in real estate for 8 years.
Shawn Anderson - Sophomore Defensive Coordinator
Coach Anderson begins his second year coaching at Forest Lake and his first on the sophomore staff where he will coordinate the defense. He has previously coached at multiple levels, both collegiate and high school as a position coach and coordinator. His coaching philosophy is to work hard, play fast and enjoy the game while you can. Coach Anderson lives in North Branch with his dog Jett and he currently works for Ramsey County as a heavy equipment operator during the day.
BJ Larsen - Sophomore Wide Receivers / Defensive Backs
Coach Larsen begins his second season at Forest Lake as an assistant on the sophomore staff where he will work with the wide receivers and defensive backs. Coach Larsen played high school football at Frank B. Kellogg and Roseville Area High School and college football at St. Olaf. His coaching philosophy is to focus on fundamentals, simplify the game and instill confidence in each player. He also wants to promote a culture where the players have fun and look forward to every day they get to spend on the football field. Coach Larsen lives in Forest Lake with his wife Amy and has three children (Sam, Kate and Emma) who all graduated from Forest Lake High School. He currently works as a marketing consultant in the medical device industry.
Tim Suess - Sophomore Offensive Line / Defensive Line
Coach Suess begins his third season at Forest Lake as an assistant on the sophomore staff where he will work with the offensive and defensive lines. Coach Suess played high school football at Forest Lake where he graduated in 1984. and college football at Augsburg college, where he was a starter at outside linebacker in 86,87, and 88. He was a two-year captain and first team all MIAC player in 1988. He has also coached Youth Football for 11 years coaching 4-8th grade and ran FLAAA football for 10 years. His coaching philosophy is to work with young men and women to become the best they can be as a football player and a human to provide passion, determination, hard work and dedication that will provide a strong foundation for their future. Always make sure they are Having FUN while playing football. He currently lives in Forest Lake and works at being retired.
Freshman Coaching Staff
Jake Mattakat - Head Freshman Coach / Defensive Coordinator
Coach Mattakat begins his first season at Forest Lake as the Head Coach for the freshman team, where he will also coordinate the defense. Coach Mattakat played high school football, served in the US Navy and attended UW Stout. He has been part of the Forest Lake Youth Football Board for six years in the capacity of Coordinator and Coach. His coaching philosophy encourages players to work together for a common goal emphasizing teamwork, perseverance, and work ethic. He has lived in the Forest Lake area for 25 years along with his wife, son and two daughters. He works for a Financial Institution, based out of Minneapolis.
Ryan Haws - Freshman Offensive Coordinator
Coach Haws begins his first season at Forest Lake as an assistant on the freshman staff where he will coordinate the offense. Coach Haws played high school football at Spring Lake Park and college football at Hamline University, both at the TE position. Previous coaching positions include Spring Lake Park, working with the varsity Tight Ends from 2021-24, as well as at the youth level in Forest Lake. He believes that attitude and effort result in success on and off the field. He currently lives in Forest Lake with his wife Hannah, sons Thomas (13), Sorin (11), and James (5), and works as a software engineer at HPE.
Brian Och - Freshman Wide Receivers / Defensive Backs
Coach Och begins his first season at Forest Lake as an assistant on the freshman staff where he will work with the wide receivers and defensive backs. Coach Och played high school football at Humboldt high school in St. Paul, MN and 12 years in the Minnesota Sports Federation men’s 7 on 7 league. He has also coached Forest lake youth football 4th - 8th grade with two separate age groups and also has coached youth basketball both boys and girls, as well as 14U B1 boys lacrosse. His coaching philosophy is to ensure player’s play the game with H.E.A.R.T hustle , effort, attitude, respect and toughness and to help player’s prepare for life with the same mindset and work ethic to achieve their goals and dreams, to better themselves to make positive impacts on their communities. He currently lives in Forest lake with his wife and 3 children, Hunter, Coleton, and Veda. He works at Mortenson construction as a union 563 skilled craft laborer and Wyoming Fire Department.
